Gift points with shorter expiration period to encourage customer activity

CHOUCHOU started using easyPoints when they migrated to Shopify. This time they conducted a short term gift point campaign for 2 months. In this article, we will summarize the positive effects brought by this campaign.

Campaign details

In this campaign, they gave out 500 points with a 2 month expiration delay to all Email subscribers. There were no excluded products, making it possible to redeem for any product, expensive or cheap. The 500 points were about 10% of the store's usual CPO, aimed to encourage customers to use the points as a good amount of discount.

The power of expiration notifications

Regarding data from easyPoints merchant's, effectively using the expiration setting is the most important part in increasing point usage and customer retention. Some stores saw a 180% increase in their orders after the expiration notification.
In this case, the points have a shorter expiration delay compared to the regular ones, making it even more powerful and effective as a short term campaign.

Results

Increased orders with gift points and notifications

The points encouraged people to order again using it as a discount. They also sent out Emil notifications occasionally to remind them about the points, and it's expiration date. During the period, there was a banner below the customer's point balance display in the account page, also reminding them about the gift points.

It resulted in a 70% increase in average during the weekends, and also kept the weekday orders higher and consistent than usual. Orders including both weekdays and weekends showed a 40% increase in order amount.

Increased point redemption / recognition

The first step of effectively using a loyalty program is to have more and more customers recognize the benefits and the basics of the program. expiration notifications, point campaigns, and other campaigns will show help your store grow only once everyone knows about the points and are willing to participate.

With this gist point campaign , many customers were introduced to the new point program for the first time, which functioned as a kick off campaign for the store's loyalty.

They also have set up a point expiration notification for the regular points, so all the customers that purchased during this campaign will receive a notification once again, before the points earned in the recent order will expire. Hopefully this will create more loops and bring stable revenue to the store.

Combination with other campaigns

The last weekend of this campaign was also the Black Friday week for this store, and by maximizing both campaigns, it reached a 120% increase in order amount.
